Tried Roxio? Can convert lots of format.

use "AVPlayer" app not need to converter rm files to mp4
just direct play on ipad rm fles

by the way
you can watch rmvb directly on iPad by oplayer lite (free)

網上好多free wave選擇，也可選擇用apps 如 oplayer , avplayer, 都有free 版本
