This impressive grouping of five "standard plan" wooden grain elevators is a rare survivor of the long rows that once dominated Prairie towns. The row was built between 1922 and 1925, (with the exception of the larger of the double elevators, built in 1940.) Manitoba's golden age of elevators, by a cross section of grain handling firms, including cooperatives and large companies backed by Canadian and American investors.

This row of five vintage elevators is the last remaining example of a landmark that was visible in almost every small prairie community. Over the years, the Inglis elevators received very little upgrading because they are situated at the end of their lines, which was under constant threat of closure. Located in a town typical of many that dot the West, these slope-shouldered sentinels are surrounded by their outbuildings, rail line and fields of grain. They stand as powerful symbols of the Prairie landscape and lifestyle.4 H! v( c4 D* G: i& j$ t" ^

These prairie sentinels are silent guardians of Western Canadian agricultural history. Efforts continue to save these landmarks and restore them as a heritage interpretive centre.
