Derek Fisher can return to the Los Angeles Lakers—in theory.
Fisher, 38, is still a free agent after one season with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He is eligible to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, an idea both he and the Lakers would explore under the right circumstances, according to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.

The point guard was declared eligible to re-sign with his former team since July 1, which is the opposite of a pervading thought Fisher could not return to the Lakers for one year to the date he was traded to the Houston Rockets last March.
According to the NBA collective bargaining agreement, a player traded and later waived cannot return to his original team without waiting for one year or until the contract runs out. The Rockets bought Fisher out of his contract before he became eligible to invoke the 2012-13 player option in his deal, a point that caused confusion, Stein points out. Because his contract ended on June 30, Fisher became a full free agent on July 1.
Problem is, the Lakers are flush with point guards. Steven Nash, Steve Blake and Chris Duhon are listed as the Lakers top three options at guard. Second-year man Darius Morris is also on the roster but is not expected to make an impact. The guard gridlock could change soon with the Lakers reportedly trying to trade Blake and Duhon, according to ESPN.
