Eduardo expects England to fail - 6 Nov 2007
Croatia and Arsenal striker Eduardo believes England have blown their chances of qualifying for Euro 2008.
Steve McClaren's side recovered from defeat in Zagreb with four successive 3-0 victories, before a 2-1 reverse away to Russia took their hopes of reaching the finals in Austria and Switzerland out of their own hands.
England could effectively be out of the running before they play their final group game against Croatia, should Russia overcome Israel in Tel Aviv on November 17 and Eduardo and his team-mates take a point against Macedonia on the same night.
That would leave McClaren praying for an utterly improbable Andorra victory against Russia as they tackle Slaven Bilic's side at Wembley.
Eduardo, on target against England 13 months ago, admits there is still some work to be done but believes the current top two in Group E will be the teams to progress.
"Things are looking really complicated for England," he said.
"Croatia are not there yet. We still need a draw against Macedonia.
"But we are definitely in the best position and I reckon it looks like Russia and Croatia will qualify." |
