Around 500 people live on Atafu Atoll, mostly in a village that can be seen on the corner in the left of the image above. Atafu is just five 公仔箱論壇& T  M3 E! q+ N0 E1 C/ D
miles wide and is the smallest of three atolls in the Tokelau Islands, a New Zealand territory.1 v# o% Q" E3 R3 T0 L# H

Atafu is made up of coral reefs that surrounded the flanks of a volcano that has since become inactive and submerged. Like many tropical

Onekotan is in Russia’s Kuril Islands between Japan and the tip of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The islands were formed by volcanic activity www3.tvboxnow.com; [4 r) p6 C% j7 z' ]' [" Q3 M
caused by the subduction of the Pacific Plate beneath the Eurasian Plate. Subduction can also generate some of the largest earthquakes www3.tvboxnow.com" d8 Z/ ~& }% W% u2 `  Z* W

Galapagos Islands, Pacific Ocean

The spectacular underwater formations to the west of Eleuthera Island are made of calcium carbonate sand that has been eroded off
of coral reefs and deposited in dunes by ocean currents.

is 110 miles long, and in places just over a mile wide. Around 8,000 people live there.
