Hong Kong people, before 1990s, only think Chinese is Cantonese.公仔箱論壇( V9 c: c% E9 y6 t
It was wrong but we only think and talk that way.

chinese 不一定是指华人也可以翻译成华文所以没有问题

i thought chinese is chinese, mandarin & catonese are dialect of chinese

What's wrong with the word "Chinese"? The word "Chinese" has multiple implications, just like any other words like "English" , "German" and "French"~~~ When you are in a place where majority of the public speaks Cantonese (which is a local dialect of Chinese), asking a person to "Speak Chinese" means you want that person to speak in that local dialect, i.e. Cantonese in this case!

I think your interpretation of "Chinese" being just a human race is far too superficial ~~~+ `0 T7 Y( A% @) F5 Z
